Pairs "LOVE - EVOL" and "EROS - SORE" are palindromes (or shifters, it means they are read equally from left to right and vice versa).
Both pairs of shifters fit well into the sense of narcissism, which turns the essence of love inside out. So, love turns into "evil" (the word "EVOL" from the first pair of palindromes is homophonically to adjective "EVIL"). If you read word EROS backward (Eros/God of Passion), you get SORE. In this way, pleasure brings only pain.
Two more pairs of words supporting the play of meanings are based on the reduction of words to the first three letters. The word CONFIDENCE contains the word CON, i.e. the very word "trust" contains "deception". The word SINCERE contains the word SIN, i.e. "Sin" as an integral part of "sincerity."
