RICH AND DIVERSE PROGRAM
The building engages the city through a potentially rich and diverse program of uses. In addition to office and parking, these include a signature two story restaurant with outdoor terrace dining targeted to a celebrity New York chef, a 500 seat multi-purpose auditorium and break-out space suitable for performance, conferences, and diverse events with street access, and a state of the art gym and health club. Additionally, there are green areas including terraces and a roof garden, as well as street level retail including cafes and bars, ensuring an active and engaging environment at all times of day.
The challenge was to maintain the daily functionality of the station while upgrading the infrastructure and constructing the new buildings. The parking requirements played a big role in this, and the phasing plan had to be planned in such a way that commuter parking would not be compromised during the built out period. The first step was to relocate all existing parking lots from Station Place to the new South State Street garage, before performing upgrades to the existing structure.
