Computer Visualisation and Image Creation: Week 11

The brief for this project was that we had to develop a menu for a cafe called Ferns. The cafe wanted the menu to hold a certain style, this case it was a distressed or grainy natural texture, this is to correspond with the cafe, along with being easy to read.
The first step in creating the menu was to take a photo that could be altered to make the distressed texture for the menu background. I took a photo of the carpet of the building I was in, with some other photos of stitching of a shirt, and a pattern on a chair. After that I drew some small icons I could use to place onto the menu, I drew some tea cups, coffee cups, and two different pies, I made sure to draw pies as this is a featured sale item at the cafe.

After the previous step, I chose the carpet photo as my texture image and altered the colours on it so I could colour it differently for the menu. From here I brought up the sketches I drew of cups and pies and used tools within Illustrator to give the sketches a style that would match the rest of the menu.
This is the final outcome of the menu. I believe it is a solid design for the menu however there are some problems with it. The Ferns logo is included and put boldly at the top so you cannot miss it, the menu text is easy to read and is stylish with multiple colours used, I also incorporated my sketches into the menu with their famous pies. However, The colours of the background has left much to be desired, the colours could be changed to other earthy colours like greens and blues rather than an orangery brown to make it more appealing, the texture of the carpet works well although I would like to use actual timber in the future to capitalise on the natural desire of the cafe client.
This is a depiction on how the menu would look after being printed and used within the cafe.
