URBANscape
Belen, New Mexico
This site is located in the small town of Belen, just south of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The two blocks chosen for this design project are lcoated at the convergence of much of the beauty and heritage of Belen. It is a prime location to provide a delightful and interactive landscape and seeks to be both a respite as well as a reminder and narration of Belen’s rich past. Belen is made up of all the many layers of its varied history including agriculture, acequia culture, long lots, sheep herding, the railroad, the rio grande, and the bosque. This design hopes to honor them all, and to bring the story of this place to the surface using a contemporary urban vocabulary and delightful playfulness.
