SE FOSSI
A Multimedial Experiment
"Se Fossi" is a personal project in which I experimented with the possibilities of hybridization between traditional and digital media to create a poster with the quality of a digital work while preserving the emotional impact of a craft work.
IF I WERE
"Se fossi" (that means "if I were" in italian) was the theme of my visual research.
When can we be what we are not? When can we imagine of being anything else?
I started from these questions, thinking above all of theater, where people can pretend to be something else while others (the audience) pretend to believe that the actors are just what they pretend to be.
The final illustration is the result of the composition and digital processing of xylographic and typographic prints.
I also made a darker variant, based on the aesthetic of ancient Greek pottery.
PROCESS
It all started with this digital sketch, in which I focused on the composition, choosing the figures to represent and a first color palette.
At this point I started with the craft phase: I carved the two main layers of the image into linoleum and experimented with printing on different types of paper.
After that I switched to the digital composition and coloring phase. At this point, I fixed some details and chose the final colors for the poster!
