Leaner Living
A Healthier City
With the Baltic Triangle in Liverpool being neglected, we were charged with developing a new direction for this area - looking to regenerate it into one of Liverpool’s most sought after areas.

Key elements of design

Project Logo and Concept

As the project developed, we realised we were very much influenced by the notion of healthy living and the wellbeing of people. Using this as a catalyst for the city and a springboard for the project, we developed the masterplan around the notion of promoting health and wellbeing.
Site Analysis
Connectivity Map

Whilst analysing the site, we identified key areas in which should be connected through the site.
Functions Map

This map shows the functions of the Baltic Trinagle as well the surrounding areas. This analysis was very important to decide what functions would take place in the new masterplan.
Public Spaces Map

This map identifies all the public spaces around the area of the Baltic Trinagle. Our analysis found that there was not a lot of public green space and certainly not a lot readily accessible to the general public.
Transport Map

Undertaking a transport analysis, allowed us to realise that the site was very well connected with a major bus station at Liverpool One and good links to the rest of the city.
Concept Strategy Diagrams
Once understanding the analysis, we developed a series of concept diagrams that enabled to develop a framework to design the masterplan.
Proposed Connections Strategy

From understanding that connections to the neighbouring areas was very important, we developed five specific links that we wanted to develop and integrate into the masterplan.
Proposed Zoning Stratgey

Going through a series of development stages, we came up a frameowork of functions for the masterplan.
Proposed Spaces Strategy

Realising that public spaces are very important to any part of the city, especially an urban one, we deciding to create a series of public spaces that would connect each of the connections to the Baltic Triangle as well as provide spaces for recreation.
Proposed Bicycle Strategy

With the concept of the masterplan being centered around health and wellbeing, we took inspiration from the 'Boris Bicyles' in London and decided to introduce it into Liverpool and make it a key part of the transport for the Masterplan.
Masterplan
Pulling together all the analysis and concept strategies, we developed the final design of the masterplan.
Site Plan

This shows the overall masterplan.
Long Section

This section looks east, showing a cut through from Liverpool One through to the Industrial Area.
Short Section

This section looks south, cutting through the Housing Estate in the East and towards the Echo Arena.
Perspective 1

This looks at the Community Public Space, where the local community and public can use the outside spaces to play sport and for general recreation use.
Perspective 2

This perspective depicts the 'Green Route' that people walk through from the Ropewalks area and into the Baltic Triangle.
Perspective 3

This visuals shows the 'Hub', the central area of the masterplan where all routes congregate to.
