Crowdfunding campaign:
On the 10th of March 2019, a storm with heavy guts of wind destroyed the 20 meters high artwork Black Meets White. The icon of the Verbeke Foundation had fallen. With this crowdfunding action, Johan and the museum aim to rebuild the artwork.
Black Meets White was a landmark, a business card for the museum almost. With the artwork, Johan Opstaele wishes to shine a light on multiple societal issues, such as environmental waste, life and death, childhood and even our consumer habits. It also has literal contradictions. This is visible in the colors, but also in the fact that you have a different experience of the artwork when you’re outside then when you’re inside.
