Human Ebbs and Flows 2016

Human Ebbs and Flows
Aluminium Road Sign 700mmx700mm
Tidal Art Prize 2016 entry, no selection

A study in human movement and motions, this piece is presented as a familiar road sign typically found preceding roundabouts. Well actioned roundabouts allow participants to maintain their flow while participating and observing the flow of others.
In addition to the reference of managing people movement the piece has a background of pattern implying repetition; daily routines actioned physically as individuals and as a community. Our links to each other through familiar habits like home life, work and travel are represented with the links in the patterns. There is no space to indicate isolation, we are all participating, there is no separation.
The pattern is of a heart; an item that has its own rhythm, repetition, ebbs and flows and regardless of our physical need for this muscle our hearts and the choices we make with it is ultimately what drives us; love, fear, God, nature, passion and anxiety.
