CORE: PC Concepts

This project was developed for a Mexican technollogy firm.
The company wanted to enter to the Personal Computer market with an equipment specific for offices.
These PCs must escape from the traditional and simplistic concept of the utilitarian PCs.
The basic requirements were:
- Must be different from the traditional office PCs.
- Must be dynamic and modern with a young feel.
- The brand must be differentiated by the design.

These were two of the concepts selected for the company as "finalist" to be produced.
Unfortunately, the economic recessions of the last years and an internal restructuring of the company accompanied by new strategies buried their plans to enter to the PCs Market.
Monitors where not considered in the first stage of the project.
The "Slim" Concept was intended to break with the clasic box shape of the utilitarian PCs for offices.
Above: some conceptual sketches.
The "Core" Concept was designer to be "easy to make" following the traditional architecture of the PCs cases but adding elements that made it more dynamic and modern.

The "Slim" Concept has curved surfaces that break with the traditional cubic shape of the PCs. The architecture was planned to carry a Mini-ATX motherboard, therefore the shape can be slimmer than the usual desktop PCs.
The classic openable media tray (DVD-CD) was replaced by a "car CD player" type media reader.
A blue halo lights when the PC is turned on.
Lateral panels and body in Steel. Front fascia molded in plastic.
The painting was a color proposed specifically for the brand with a satin finish.
The original concept had the brand printed vertically along the lateral panel instead to have a classic badge on the front. After the company buried the project, I changed the original brand for the word "CORE".
The "CORE" Concept was designed to use an existing chassis architecture in order to save in engineering and manufacturing process. It was intended to carry a Mini-ATX motherboard so basically the concept is like a miniaturized hi-performance PC for gamers brought to the office.
It has one intake fan on the lateral and one exhaust fan on the top to maximize the cooling in equipment working 24/7. A frontal intake fan was optional.
