The brief was 'to design a Book cover for the Raymond Chandler novel, The Big Sleep'. I chose not to read the book however I did research the plot line and read a few paragraphs to gain an understanding of the tone and feeling from the book to portray onto the cover. After researching previous designs it became clear the cover design was very much a cliche and it was my duty to design something completely different. 

The dominos represent the game that is being played in the story and the knocked over domino represents death, murder... sleeping. The dominos also resemble a city skyline, the story is set in LA so this resemblance fits well. 
The simple colour pallette coupled with the clean design works well. I didn't want to create a distraction on the book cover or manipulate the readers mind with visuals characters.
