Rage quit platformer, First game

Rage quit platformer
Initiation
When we started making the game we thought of a platformer with a good bunch of enemies, starting off with writing a story, planning out levels dividing the work of making sprites, backgrounds, choosing stencyl as our tool.

Problems
As we continued making our game we faced a quite a few problems mostly due to the limitations of stencyl itself. We tried to troubleshoot these problems and overcame most problems by creatively coding the entities of the game to add more dynamic challenges.

However, our entire game was cut short due to stencyls memory limitations. So even though we had dynamic backgrounds, code and sprites of future levels ready it couldn’t be added into the game. We chose to extend and make the first level as difficult as possible as to provide a challenging “unfair” system. Though we made sure the game was beatable.

My contribution in this two man project included a joint ideation for the story line, all the sprite animations, and the visual scripting of the game. The planning of the platforms was a joint ideation.

This was my first time stepping into the game design field.

Below are some of the animations, scripts and photos from the gameplay.
Level layout that fit within stencyls memory limit
Script for various elements of the game, from enemy movement, enemy attacks, player attacks
The animations made for the main character
Animations for common enemy
Animations of final boss that could not end up in game due to memory shortage within stencyl
The Aim of this game was to test out the waters of game design and this project was completed within 3 days. The final platformer could not be exported to the an external site as it was a stencyl file, but it was played by many and achieved its goal of frustrating the player and rewarding the player when they completed it!
