For this project I had to create a children and family activity guide for FORMAT13's photography festival. This year the festival is based on the theme of factory. Derby QUAD came forward and asked us to design the guides based on this theme and to maybe include a central character. This project was a live brief so I only had a limited amount of time to get it all together.

I decided I wanted my character guide to be of a "Wonka-esque" design, also fitting with the time period of Victorian factories.

When my activity guide is folded up to around the size of A6, then it would need a front cover. Here is the rough design of that cover:

I had decided fairly early on that I wanted to use a silhouette for majority of the design however I wasn't sure what to include. I brainstormed some ideas when I came to the decision of using the outlines of buildings involved in the festival.

 

The Art team at Derby QUAD then chose my design to further develop, and they got back to me with the amendments that they wanted. The amendments were mainly gramatical such as change of date, time etc. Illustration wise they just asked me to change my Guides mouth on the front, stating it looked unusual and to make him a little smaller.
