The Paper Clip Calendar (2018)

The series of works called ‘’The Paper clip Calendar’’(2017), depict the issue of a banal office object being a unique subject. The chosen material (which is a pencil) , allows artist to show the movement of a banded metal in a full way. Drawings are presented vertically to show one month of a hard almost jeweler like work. There are four parts set up in a certain way to show the monumentality, emphasizing the scale; small object on a big surface. ‘’The Paper clip Calendar’’ (2017) is made on a paper, which is connected to the idea why the paper clips are made (to hold papers together). Due to the idea of drawing one raw per working day, each line (horizontally) presents 6 angles of a subject metter, repeated 5 times.

This series can be continued for years, as there is almost an endless number of variants the paper clip could be banded. Initial point, which was born in the office surroundings, was to see the beauty of details and shapes. There are several ways to calm yourself down while being stressed- one of them is to band the paper clips. After having them collected unexpectedly on the table, the paper clips where brought into the new place for them- artist’s studio.

Because the 3D object is transformed to the drawing on the paper, such aspect as scale is lost. So there is a possibility to the viewer to construct their own understanding of the object’s size. Is it tiny? Is it huge? The way paper clips are presented, have been improved each time, that is why it is important to show them in a chronological way.

The works might remind the biological/ scientific studies, which is relevant to the theme of observation of an object. After drawing them for more then 20ty times, artist starts to systemize the process of a drawing, as well depicting new qualities of a paper clips.

‘’The Paper clip Calendar’’ (2017)  is not only about the paper clips themselves or an office life. It is also about details, repetition, everydayness, observation of material and changes.
