The Fruits Of Our Labors

For our third project in Typography we worked with handmade type. I was tasked with making type using fruits.
It all started with a simple sketch that I came up with early into the sketching process. I knew I wanted to use bananas as an F and a T however, I wasn't sure what to do for the rest, I knew I wanted to use fruit slices for the R but the rest came later.
I cant remember the name of the font I used (come back later) but I picked a font that I liked and printed the letters I needed out, I cut them out using an exacto knife and learned 2 things in the process. 1. Exacto knives are sharper than they look (and they already look sharp enough to begin with) 2. Using a ruler to cut at least for me is counter productive and in some cases less efficient.

Back at home I started setting up using the materials and fruits i've gathered...
I started setting up everything and things were starting to take form
One-by-one I started setting up the components that would make the letters and their respective parts, I used bananas for the F,U, and T grapes and a strawberry for the I, and slices of lemon, lime, and orange for the R and S. Finally I gave everything a dotted underline using raspberries.
I wanted this project to be my redemption from the last project which in my mind was a failure to learn from. I had a lot more fun with this project than I expected, I was challenged and made to think of the properties of my materials, for instance, did you know that a lemon is a lot juicier than a lime, and that grapes continuously condensate? I didn't but I had to take that into account to keep the paper from soaking the juice. The cleanup was nice and rewarding too.
Overall i'm happy with this project and hope to make other projects as good, if not better than this one in the future.
