SUBLIME PHENOMENA
Digital Paintings Series | Role: Painter & Illustrator
The Concept: I was inspired by the beauty of natural disasters and how they can be simultaneously terrifying. My goal was to capture this juxtaposition in a sublime visual experience. I used concepts from Ancient Aztec and Japanese mythical legends, and set out to sketch cyclones and volcanic eruptions as powerful opposing forces, filled with emotion and colorful artistry.

The Process: I drew in my sketchbook, and later onto tracing paper, my visually favorite structures of storms. Inspiring artists for my digital painting work consisted of English Romantic painter J. M. W. Turner and Australian photographer Peter Lik. Using my smartphone and scans of my charcoal texture drawings, I was able to create custom Photoshop brushes and digitally paint new phenomena forms with my Wacom tablet.
Mediums: Pen, pencil, pastels, and charcoal. Digital painting, PS brushes (created by myself), and Wacom tablet.

Print Mediums: Pieces have been printed large scale (40in x 30in) on photo gloss paper, and small scale (8in x 12in) on plexiglass.

The Solution: Combining both traditional and digital media has helped me create a sublime visual of storms, a sort of fantasy setting that is beautiful and eerie. My digital paintings have been featured in art galleries, and I continue to develop my fine art and digital skills.
