The Scrabble Folio Game really changed the way Hasbro thought about travel games. The original edition had fallen off in sales to just under 50k a year. My focus became modernizing the product to feel like other travel products at the time. I also wanted to make sure it could be played and then stored mid game because if you arrive at your destination, or your flight is now boarding, you don’t want to have to stop your game and clean up. The new product grew sales by 800% in the first year without any advertising. It has since had a few updates, but 13 years later it is still on the market.
The Scrabble Folio garnered demand for more folio products, and actually turned into a three year venture featuring both adult and kids brands. With each of these the focus was on a sturdy, high quality travel edition. I wanted each of these to be the coolest way to own the game, not just the one you have to use because you are away from home. I feel like this you tube video from a satisfied consumer sums it up really well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yKbPjqIto8

One advantage of the fabric case was that it could be easily changed to keep up with fashion trends. This study showed examples of how fabric changes might be utilized to change the look.
While the adult versions of Boggle Yahtzee and Scrabble had a refined crafted look, I wanted the Children's games to be fun and inviting with cool graphic treatments.
