Vector Graphic Photo Realistic Watch

Vector- Photo Realistic Watch
The past couple of weeks I have been working on creating a photo realistic watch out of a vector graphic. I love the Kate Spade brand, so I chose to do a Kate Spade Watch. I wanted other Kate Spade enthusiasts who saw it to not be able to tell which one was the photograph and which one was the vector graphic (at least at first!)

I started by sketching different areas of the watch that had light and shadow, or that overlapped somehow. I wanted to be able to get a good idea of how I was going to need to layer different objects to make it look realistic. I decided to try to make the spade on the watch wider like it is in the logo, with shadow underneath as well as darker edges along the bottom of the spade. I also realized I needed to add more layers in the center dial of the watch to give it the depth and shadow that it has in the photograph.

This was my first draft of the watch. I still had a lot of shadows and highlights to put in. Some feedback I got was to make sure the lugs on the watch were not cutting off the band, add more shadow to the center of the dial, and add more color to the metal around the face. I moved the lugs over a little bit to make sure they didn't cut off the band, and worked on adding a lot more shadows to the center dial and other parts of the watch. I also added more gold and shadow and highlight to the metal.
This is my final watch. I think I was able to match the watch pretty well, and at first glance, in my opinion, you can't tell which is vector and which is a photograph, so I think I was able to meet my objective. It was a hard project, but it was really cool to see it all come together and come to life in the end!
