Ι photographed Evi for the illustration of a magazine interview. It was an article for women who left their jobs due to the economic crisis and turned to rural startups. The press in Greece is trying to create a buzz of optimism by idealizing such solutions. On the other hand, Evi had to uproot her family’s orange trees so she could start a new business by farming snails. I asked her if she could express her feelings about this whole new experience with just one look for the readers. As a result, within a few seconds she expressed anxiety, fear, stubbornness, girlish shyness, self-deception, a bitter smile, and pride.
