ESPIAT #004 Gold Rush XJR 1200 Street Tracker Custom Bike
Once again one of these unbreakable YAMAHA XJR´s has found its way into my studio. Zweirad Hassemer asked me to design a new version of her XJR. The only requirement was not to leave the bike completely black. So the decision was made to combine black, gold and chrome. The overall style should go a little bit in the direction of Street Tracker. A radical rear had to be designed and numberplates on the handlebars and on the sides should not be missing. The basic character of the XJR was retained.
Courage to chrome, gloss and gold
Admittedly, the colour combination was not necessarily expected from me. But somehow we wanted to build a bike with polished rim beds, as it was done in the 90s. And if you take this bold step, you can continue right away, chrome parts were deliberately chosen and reworked. Manifold, rear silencer and the crash bars, together with the polished rim beds, form the basis of the bike. The rest of the bike comes in discreet black. To compensate for this stark colour contrast, the decision was made in favour of a noble matalic gold. I think the color concept fits perfectly to the birth decade of the YAMAHA XJR.
Rear, lamp mask and numberplates are custom-made.
I designed and implemented air scoops as cladding for the air filter box. The rear was made of GFK. The lamp mask also serves as a number plate and is also a special design made of fiber composite materials. The silencers (Ok in this case the sound amplifiers 🙂 fit optically very well to the XJR.  We wanted to keep the old megaphone look of the rear silencers and decided for these open funnels, a mad sound! The engine and gearbox are in excellent original condition.
The cockpit was cleaned up, a small analog tachometer and a few signal lights are left.
For the conversion of the short tail the frame had to be shortened, otherwise the frame is untouched.
Combined turn signals with light and brake light function for a reduced rear view.
The rear and brake lights are integrated in the indicators, resulting in a very sporty and tidy rear view. We polished the rim beds and painted the rim star as well as a part of the tank and the lamp mask in gold metallic, the rest of the motorcycle is in plain black and chrome. The fork has more progressive springs. The seating position is sporty but upright, the wide handlebars provide optimal handling.
