DESIGN NARRATIVE
The goal for this project was to create a cohesive brand identity for an urban tattoo parlor named Black Honey Tattoo. For this brand, the idea was to give it a classic tattoo feel while also being clean and professional. The target audience for this brand are people ages 20-35 who enjoy the experience and aesthetic of tattoos. For the logo, the inspiration came from the similarity between the shape of a tattoo gun with a bee or wasp; there was also the aspect of pain that connected the two. From there, the graphic was developed and the name followed which was inspired by how the viscosity of ink was reminiscent of honey almost. The brush script font was chosen to help connect the brand back to tattooing. Obviously, the color palette was also inspired by honey bees, but the yellow was toned down to keep the brand still appealing to the audience. After finalizing the logo, other branding elements were built to help flesh it out more. Another appeal of the brand was the idea of giving back to the environment. Because of the bee within the logo, a bee conservation campaign was also built into the brand's identity. The idea was to have the brand be affiliated with local bee conservation efforts, and give a portion of their proceeds to these organizations while also spreading awareness through their clients. This is where the brochure comes in. Stickers and T-shirts were made to help spread brand awareness, and, of course, a website was made to give the brand an online presence as well. All of these elements were made in either Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe InDesign.
