Introducing the MTNA eFestival Program

An accomplished musician and arts educator, Dr. Timothy V. Blair served as a professor of piano at West Chester University, then went on to serve as founding dean of the school's College of Visual and Performing Arts. Over the course of a career spanning more than three decades, Dr. Timothy V. Blair has been active with several professional organizations, including the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

Along with advancing the work and professionalism of music teachers, MTNA oversees a variety of programs and activities to support and engage music students. One of these programs is the MTNA eFestival, which gives musicians the opportunity to have their playing critiqued by a highly qualified evaluator.

To receive an evaluation through the MTNA eFestival program, participants must video record up to 15 minutes of them playing and upload the video to the internet via their YouTube account. They must then submit the YouTube links to MTNA along with an eFestival application and payment for the $25 application fee. Once the video links, application, and fee have been submitted, an MTNA evaluator reviews the entrant's playing and sends them email feedback within approximately 7 to 10 days of submission.

The MTNA eFestival is a convenient option for music students living in remote areas without access to music competitions and other evaluative events. It also provides a great opportunity for those with performance anxiety.

The program is open to musicians of all ability levels and styles. In addition to solo piano, brass, woodwind, and strings, evaluations are offered for solo vocalists and players of guitar, harp, percussion, mandolin, ukulele, and organ. Chamber groups of up to six musicians can also submit their playing for evaluation.
