Graffiti - Art or Vandalism?

Graffiti - Art, or Vandalism?

Graffiti - Art, or Vandalism? This project does not attempt to solve the questions that have been raised but instead aims to initiate a wider debate, and make the viewer question not only the classification of graffiti but the issues raised too, and potentially increase the awareness of them. This project explores the idea of how to preserve graffiti.

This project explores the transitory nature of graffiti through analogue photography, and serves to preserve the work in a format that would be considered socially acceptable, unlike its original canvas. Inspired by Karl Lagerfeld, who famously once said “What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” The photographs were taken using a 35mm film camera as the idea of preservation not only relates to the content, but the method used to capture it.

Outcomes:
A series of A1 photographs
An archive of the original 35mm photographs
A book titled 'Graffiti - Art or Vandalism?'
