'Hen Hao Xue' Biscuits

Nanyang Polytechnic (Year 3) School Project
Background
Chinese idioms are part of our Chinese culture which came from ancient meaningful stories and we should ensure that Singaporeans remain rooted in our Asian heritage. It is important to bring back the Chinese culture and language, thus making it more powerful, functional and fascinating.

My objective of this project is to educate and encourage teenagers and young adults to learn and use Chinese idioms in their daily lives. The strategy is to come up with a series of novelty biscuits. The themes are ‘love’, ‘greetings’, and ‘encouragement’. As the targeted audience are teenagers, aged 13-17, these are the topics/occasions where they would most likely want to use Chinese idioms. Hence, in collaboration with the ‘Speak Mandarin Campaign’, Khong Guan introduce this new series of biscuit ‘很好学’.

Branding
‘很好学’ (hen hao xue) means good to learn, easy to learn, and also eager to learn. It emphasises
the importances of appreciating Chinese idioms and the benefits of using it in their daily lives.
The Chinese characters are designed in a stylised manner as to depict the freehand sketching giving
the casual look to the logo.

Red colour is used to symbolise the love, passion, and excitement of teenagers learning Chinese idioms.
It is also used to grip the viewer’s attention.

In addition, the mini game in the boxes of biscuit creates a casual and fun essence to eat, play, and learn at the same time.
