Board Game – San Gimignano

Historical board game about tower house building and family feuds in a small walled medieval hill town in Tuscany, central northern Italy called San Gimignano.

Concept
The game’s concept is based on an Italian city called San Gimignano. Due to the cultivated saffron trade some families became very rich and powerful in the middle-ages. By building so-called tower houses these families competed against each other. The higher the towers, the more powerful and wealthy the family was. Envy and distrust caused family feud and bloodshed in the city’s walls for a long time.

Realization
Topological game elements and mints/coins were shaped by a milling cutter and printed by laser engraving. The game cards were printed on matching Alster Werkdruck-Paper. The buildings are made from maplewood and their roof lines have been painted by hand. For typography, TJ Evolette was used as Display-Font and Futura for the content.
