Portraits

Throughout my making practice there is a constant examination of cherished objects journeys. These include a journey through the wearer’s trials and tribulations, excitement and celebration. The wearer and the object are marked by these journeys taken. The history is embedded on the object, and it becomes the keeper of the beholder's history. Untitled and Self Portrait are an investigation into the evolution of a cherished object.
Untitled
A ring that has not yet begun its journey with a wearer, Untitled now awaits for a wearer to make it its own (lower ring in image below).

Self Portrait
A ring worn from the moment I proposed this body of work, and continued to wear until the submission for the exhibition. During that time the ring attracted incidental mark marking. Every dent and scratch is evidence of each action taken by myself, as the wearer. Together the culmination of these marks began to create a narrative, drawing focus to the ring bearing witness to the wearer journey. The ring displays a high intensity of markings as a result of my occupation as a maker. This ring shows with pride that it is worn and weathered (upper ring in image below).
