I wanted to highlight a trend I was seeing surface on Facebook at the time. I was seeing images of ill children with the caption "one like equals one prayer" or "please share to save this child" circulate my feed. These type of posts I felt, were an invasion of privacy as well as preying on peoples emotions. Often times, the images were being pulled from the web and used as a tool to drive traffic to a certain page unbeknown to the family of the child in the image.
I wanted to show a world were social media had the power to save a life, just as the posts I was seeing suggested. In doing so, I hoped to highlight the absurdity of this behaviour.
We view the first scene through the eyes of a child. His mother assures him that everything is going to be OK as the boy loses consciousness. We cut into a hospital waiting room where we witness the interaction between the doctor and the parents of the boy. The realism in this piece heightens the ridiculousness of the concept.
This was a Non-union production, shot in Artscape Youngplace in Toronto.
