Delta - Modular Typeface Exercise Fall '13

This alphabet was created for a class assignment, the focus of which was the creation of a modular typeface using a system of our own creation. I decided to base my letterforms off of triangles, trying to keep the characters as simple as possible. The aim was to create something that looked totally alien at first glance, but once given the aid of a key would be recognizable. This route was taken because the goal of the assignment was not perfect legibility, but on the working system itself.

The individual letterforms were built with the aid of an isometric grid. The legibility of this typeface might prove to be a challenge at first glance, as this font uses an unconventional means of arranging itself. In practice, the shift key is used to place a character that has been rotated 60 degrees from the default, allowing it to be places neatly beside its neighbor. While unconventional it allows for some interesting contextual uses.
The text written in the example reads: <i>"This system is inspired by science fiction. Simple shapes suggest familiar forms."</i>
