Infographics- Poverty

Infographics on world Poverty with Focus on Nigeria
The inspiration
World Poverty clock was the inspiration for this info graphic. The goal was to explore one aspect and focus on telling a coherent story.
Target Audience
The project was designed with the target audience in mind. A NGO trying to show its patrons the misery in Africa and the rate at which poverty is spreading in Africa. The focus is on Nigeria which is the country with largest number of people below poverty line.
Goal of the Info graphic
The goal is to invoke sympathy and encourage people to donate to educate people in Africa so that they can become more aware and conscious of their condition, empowering them to rise above poverty.
Data
The world poverty clock was the main source of data along with World Bank which sets the poverty line revised in 2015. The focus was on three main aspects
1) Objective set to eradicate poverty and progress towards meeting it
2) African continent being the most poorest so far
3) Nigeria rising to be the nation with most number of poor people in the world.
The Design
Planning the info graphic was a challenge since the first two drafts did not satisfy me and the message was missing its mark.
Elements and choice of colours
The info graphic is text focused and hence the choice of typeface was very important. Hence picking the right font was crucial since it would dictate the personality and readability of the info graphic and determine the attractiveness of the design.
Colors had to be generic like red for the line of poverty, green and blue to signify the world. Picking only 2-3 colors for info graphics works best since it creates harmony and does not take away from the overall working of the graphics as one. The background was kept a light shade of yellow that would blend with everything and yet highlight elements in the info graphic.
The elements used like the rocket signified speed. The maps were to make audience aware of the size of the country compared to the world and to show scale of the problem.
The small graphic of a person was to create a connect about people and poverty.
Conclusion:
The overall aim is to tell a story of poverty in Nigeria and the rate at which poverty increases in the world
