Hats off to Harry Ramsdens

For the reboot of the world famous Harry Ramden’s there were many avenues to explore.  The idea of the British seaside and the sea itself seemed not only cliche but not overly relevant to the new cultures which the restaurant is branching out into.  As Harry Ramdem’s was established 1923 it is quite obvious that the business has a fantastic reputation for fresh british food.  For these reasons the search for something deeper was needed.

Fish and chips are not a serious food so we felt we needed a design that is fun and playful to make the branding more appealing to families and all ages. After a lot of research a consensus was reached that the root of the success of Harry Ramden’s was the man himself.  The search began to find a way to celebrate this man while re-branding the business and making it more relevant for todays world.

Hat’s off to Harry was a good way to “tip the hat” to Harry and tie in the famous image of him outside his first fish and chip shop.  As well as this it brought in a well needed element of fun which is missing from their brand at the moment.

Harry Ramsden’s are world famous for fish and chips with outlets in Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Australia and America, which is why there are hats from many different cultures across the world. Keeping slightly with the current Harry Ramsden’s branding we used a red colour palate so the customer can still relate to the brand. As we have a fun design we needed a playful typeface to accompany it this i why we chose a sans serif type Alte Haas Grotesk which is a little softer than Helvetica.
So Hat’s off to Harry, Thanks for the fish and chips
