THE SLEEPLESS BEAR AND THE SQUIRREL
( a Work in Progress Project )
the story:
There was a bear in love for coffee. He used to drink all the time.
But then he couldn’t sleep.
When the winter comes the bears take a long nap. They call it hibernate. A big problem for the bear who couldn’t sleep.
“How am I supposed to sleep an entire winter, when I can’t even sleep one night?!”
The winter came and each bear went back to their cave.
One night passed by and the bear did not preach eye, two and did not winked, three and not even a yawn! It was so boring, the bear was loosing his mind. Suddenly he heard something!
“Wait, I’ve heard something?”
“Who’s there?”
And from the middle of the provisions for the winter jumps a small squirrel! Running fast, trying to escape.
The bear caught him and asked: “What are you doing here? Are you stealing from me?!”
Scared to death the squirrel couldn’t even speak.
“Can’t you speak?” said the bear. And the squirrel passed out.
Because the bear was very smart, instead of eating the squirrel he decided to wait for him to wake up.
When the squirrel woke up the bear made him a proposal.
“You know, I’m very hungry but I can spare you if you bring me food. The winter is long, and I can’t sleep. I’ll need more provisions, that also includes lots of coffee!”
The squirrel is no dump at all and immediately accepted but with a condition... “yes, I can bring you food but you have to let me stay here with you.”
Both agreed on the partnership and the deal was sealed.
The Squirrel started to do what squirrels do best! And every day there was more food arriving on the Bear’s cave. The bear was very happy!
But from where was coming all that food?
Obviously, the Squirrel was stealing from the other bears, who were actually sleeping.
The winter was almost ending and the bears were waking up. They were very hungry, but...?! “Where is the food?!” They asked each other, and it was unanimous, there was no food! “There’s a thief stealing our food and we have to catch him!”
They went back to their caves pretending to be sleeping. At night the squirrel went to one of the caves to grab some extra coffee. What he didn’t expect was to find the bear waiting for him while snoring...
All the bears wanted to know where was the food. But the squirrel was very brave and did not answered. After all he learned something from the bear.
As soon as the sleepless Bear heard about the Squirrel went on his rescue.
There was a bunch of bears surrounding the squirrel but that did not threaten the Sleepless Bear. He said “leave him alone! I’ve eaten all the food!” They couldn’t believe... “you traitor, you’re turning your back to your people to help a squirrel? And you ate our food?!”
“Yes, I did and I had no choice! I couldn’t sleep! I had no other way to survive... the squirrel actually saved me!”
“How dare you!”
The bears fought!
They were many but to weak and sleepy from the long winter nap. The Sleepless Bear won the fight! He was full of energy from all that food and coffee the squirrel brought him. The Squirrel was safe now and both decided to find a new place to live.
