A man is born as essence and this constitutes his real part, the part from which he can really grow and develop. But this part in him can only grow in a very small way. It has not the strength to grow by itself any further after the age of five. In order for it to grow further something must happen. Essence must become surrounded by something that is really foreign to itself, acquired from life, which enters through the senses. A little child must cease to be itself and become something different from itself. Something must form itself round essence and this is called personality. The richer the personality the better for the growth of essence. Allowing essence to grow at the expense of personality is the only way in which essence can continue to develop.
The Will is a power within ourselves and attaches itself to the world out there. It comes out through the belly to shoot out, like an arrow. It is not a thought, or an object, or a wish. When we perceive the world with our will we know that it is not as 'out there' or 'as real' as we think.
"I am that I am."
Disintegration of Life force, expanding uncontrollably beyond its limits, like a fog of crystals. That is the way Life and Death mix and expand. Death is equal to everything else, so being equal it is unimportant.
When you 'see' there are no longer familiar features in the world. Everything is new. Everything has never happened before. Everything you gaze at becomes nothing! Things don't disappear. They don't vanish; they simply become nothing and yet they are still there. 'Seeing' is not a matter of looking and keeping quiet. 'Seeing' is a technique one has to learn. Once a man learns to 'see' he finds himself alone in the world with nothing but his folly. 'Seeing' makes one realize the unimportance of everything.
Man is the product of outside influences and as such is unable to have control over oneself and his life. He's ruled by the outside forces and laws, and one of these forces is a steady stream of associative mental pictures. Thoughts are an obstacle that does not allow us to see the world as it really is.
Everything we do, everything we are, rests on our personal power. If we have enough of it, one word uttered to us might be sufficient to change the course of our lives. But if we don't have enough personal power, the most magnificent piece of wisdom can be revealed to us and that revelation won't make a damn bit of difference. We are luminous beings, and for a luminous being only personal power matters. But if you wonder, what personal power is, any explanation will not explain it.
