Barry Richards's profile

eCommerce fashion website

After two years working at Mina, I jumped at the opportunity to redesign the website - minauk.com

 The main aim was to step out of the usual mould for eCommerce websites, and do more to have the website represent lifestyle.

Instead of the traditional approach of taking product shots in a studio, we took to the London streets for shots inspired by the Sartorialist and the plethora of fashion bloggers, who do such a good job conveying their fashion tastes (and personalities) through photography.

I also developed the website to be completely responsive, so the user experience was optimised for all devices. Perfect for the modern fashion consumer.

We wanted to give immediate impact and stimulate visitors visually. Mina wanted a very lively and vibrant feel representative of the Spring/Summer collection. I toned things down a little for Autumn/Winter collections.

 The big image slider is perfect for presenting the large landscape photos backed up by expressive typography, to give that initial impact,  and of course direct visitors to the content within.

The six images under the slider direct customers to product groups defined by events, promotions or trends, such as the one below;

As collections are generally quite small, we decided to subdivide the products into just four main categories - new arrivals, clothing, accessories and jewellery. Further categorisation is taken care of by the filter panel. This provides a more elegant and usable alternative to dropdown lists.

...

We decided to use Futura web throughout. The classic font is contemporary with a vintage feel. Just like the brand.
