The Waitress
'Jack Zipes'
‘The Waitress’ is a creative short story written by Jack Zipes, the brief wanted this original book style to be invested into the invention and experimentation of a magazine layout.

In response I decided to interpret the story as it almost being a dream like state, as I felt the style of writing was very free flowing but slightly distanced. I split the story into seven sections upon the basis of the tone of the story changing, the layout of the magazine also follows this style with the design of the pages decreasing then increasing in size as if you flow through the book as if it was all a dream. The inner layouts also use these aspects, I put the ‘Chairs’ narrative upside down as I wanted it to appear as if it were a different side or split personality of the waitress herself.
