Bringing home to the office

Our office space was the perfect place to start thinking about how to bring 'home' into our everyday at work. We designed two simple shelving units to add both functionality and warmth.

The tall a-symmetrical book shelf transformed our space instantly from a cold, homogenous office to an environment that at-once felt inviting and lived-in. The shelf was designed to be distinctively different from other office shelves in the building, however, it was most important that any piece of furniture we designed for work felt at home in our homes. Functionally, the bookshelf provided a much needed place for a growing collection of books and inspiring ephemera created by the team as well as items collected during our travels. A stool is thoughtfully and delightfully incorporated to aid in reaching the top shelf.

The desktop shelf is a catch-all for day-to-day tools and reference books. The shelf was designed to be low, aiding our collaborative curiosities and neighborly activities when we peered out from behind our large screens. The challenge with respect to this particular piece of furniture was to thoughtfully incorporate it into the existing desks while achieving harmony with other existing and new furnishings. Functionally, the shelf helped keep workstations tidy, facilitating the ability to prioritize current work (on the desk) vs. the stack of ongoing work that would typically pile up and be forgotten.
