Electric Pedal Vehicle NIKE

The Concept

I am going to design a sports vehicle for the year 2030. It will be designed as the next Nike concept car and will be powered by pedal power and electric motors. My idea is to design it so that it quadruples the speed in which you are pedalling at, to help the owner keep fit.

To keep with the style of Nike, the vehicle will be sporty and as lightweight as possible. It will also have a focus on looking after the world by using recycled materials and having no emissions.

It will be designed to be fast and agile, whilst also being a safe and comfortable place to be. While racing this vehicle the driver will be getting hot and sweaty, therefore, just like the trainers, it will allow air through the fabric to keep the driver cool.

The vehicle will not only be used on the track so it has to be practical and good for long distances. This means it should carry more than one person and hand luggage. A possibility is designing different attachments to make easy to change between track and everyday life modes.

Ideas

Initially I couldn’t decide which seating position would be best for this vehicle as I wanted it to be comfortable, but I also wanted to have a new concept for controlling it. So what I came up with is having a seating module which can switch between a cycling position and a karting position and can also tilt side to side when you go round a corner.

The other two ideas I had for this vehicle was to have a waterproof fabric door which would either roll out the way or fold when you open the door. The vehicle will also be convertable to protect the driver when it’s raining.

Design Development
I used Speedform to be able to make a simple package drawing of the vehicle to design around. In the front will be a large boot space which would make the vehicle more practical. In the rear will be the battery and the main motor which quadruples the speed from the driver who is pedalling.

In the picture below you can see that I made a very simple body to show how the proportions of the vehicle will look.

Colour Scheme

For the paint job of the vehicle I wanted to push the norm and have a splash of bright colours like most Nike products do. As the front wheel was going to be very different from the back wheel I was also going to have them different colours. I tested out a set of different colour schemes and this is the one I have chosen. With a matte black and metallic silver body, divided by a bright, sporty red.
