Corey Steinmetz's profile

Civil War at the Indiana Historical Society

Beginning in May 2012, I was a part of the Exhibition Design and Production team as an intern at the Indiana Historical Society. For about the first month, I helped where I could for graphics and installation of the Ending Polio exhibit. In July, I began working on the Civil War from Fort Sumter to Emancipation exhibit. Installed on the 4th floor in mid-September,  I matted and framed all of the pieces, art directed and designed all the panels and text layouts for it, created the flow and displays for all information, and made a full mock up of the space, to allow an understanding of where everything would go once finally in it. I managed the project, having guidance from Senior Director of Collections, Steve Haller and Senior Archivist, Barbara Quigley, and helped make sure that deadlines were met.

Materials worked with:
Gator board
Phototext
Frames
Large-format printers
Process work included a moodboard, type palettes, 3D space layout, and finding frames
These boards are of each wall that could be used in the exhibit. Sized down to 10 percent, I was able to
place the artwork on the boards for an overall feel of the show.
