This seat amplifies sound using a resonant speaker. Created using a canoe joint profile, a curvacious, thin, wooden shell encloses a large volume of air, Designed after the body of an instrument, this air cavity acts as a resonant chamber to amplify sound. The tapered geometry projects sound linearly along the the length of the piece. The bench lived outside our pop-up gallery and served as a megaphone for us to project messages into the adjacent square.  In this way the furniture participated in the corner's acoustic environment.

This is a project for the LABRARY, an experimental Pop-Up space put together by Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) students from the the Library Test Kitchen, with the help of the Harvard Library and the Library Lab.
