Typographic Anatomy Poster
"A Chip off the Old block"
Size: A2
Purpose of the project: Introduce Typographic Anatomy
From the researches of different typeface, it was find that some of the typefaces were inspired
from the other typefaces. Times New Roman is one of them, it was inspired from Plantin and
they look similar. So I used an Idiom “A Chip off the Old block ” to describe their relationship.
Plantin
Plantin is a old-style serif typeface named after the printer Christophe Plantin. It was first cut
in 1913 by Fritz Stelzer under the guidance of Frank Hinman Pierpont for the Monotype
Corporation, and is based on a Gros Cicero face cut in the 16th century by Robert Granjon.
Plantin is one of the typefaces that influenced the creation of Times New Roman in the 1930s.
Times New Roman
Times New Roman is a serif typeface commissioned by the British newspaper The Times
in 1931, created by Victor Lardent. It was commissioned after Stanley Morison of the English
branch of printing equipment company Monotype criticised the Times for being poorly printed
and typographically antiquated.
