I am interested in formal simplicity used to create visual complexity, and the non-objective nature of geometry.
Consistent gridded information provides me with a canvas to give form to chosen color palettes. Arriving at a visually pleasing composition comes from a process of filling in predesignated wireframe grid information with color; this step can always take me many different directions—some great, some bad. This variety of outcomes resulting from choices at an early stage of
process is an exercise that I can always get better at, keeps me working hard with my visual research, and keeps my mind open/aware/in tune with the multiplicity of choices every minute in my life.
The object of the grids themselves can connote various specific emotions depending on the relationship of form and color within the composition and the context in which it is placed; because of this and the fundamental value of aesthetic pleasure, grids are a valuable design tool.
I produce these with the intention of their existence in the public sphere; to provide a new visual stimulus in a built world where homes and businesses are often laden with mass produced decor objects via superstores. Their existence will provide a creative presence/energy that brings viewers to contemplative or meditative states. The hopeful result being an internal or interpersonal discourse which would not have existed without their presence.
