Very British Problems | Identity Redesign

This project that began in late May was based around the idea of redesigning the visual identity of the social media pages and independent website known as Very British Problems, a collection of pages and a website itself that recaps and shares a variety of situations and sayings that are regularly experienced and said by the people of Great Britain, by the use of a visual style that combines text with illustration-based stickers.

As you will see, the text has been displayed in a Swiss style fashion with nothing but the size between the header and the footer as a form of “visual reassurance” that the intended hierarchy is placed where it should in-fact be rightfully placed. Also, to help with making the stickers look as authentic as possible, I decided to use layer effects such as a white stroke border and dark-but-faint outer glow to help create a look that does not feel completely flat, but something that appears undoubtedly different to the counterpart it is then placed on top of.

The colour palette throughout the design has been used in such a way that is intentionally reminiscent of Britain as the background uses a dark blue, the text uses a clear white, and the moustache uses a rich red in order to help pay homage to the country’s very own Union Jack flag. However, also given a specific colour is a tea mug and spill that both share a single colour (brown) but in a different shade, as well the raindrops using an aqua blue, as I’m sure many people can agree this perfectly summarises a good majority of British weather.

For the display mockup, I decided to go with placing the final outcome in the centre of a wide open space, with a selection of coloured backgrounds that sample different colours from the actual design itself.
