Illusional
A wooden clock designed to resemble the pieces made during the Art Nouveau movement
Art Nouveau is an art movement that emphasizes incorporating art into everyday objects and pieces, in order to make design a commonplace characteristic. A significant inspiration in many pieces comes from nature and organic forms. They wish to create their own "modern" design.
In designing a clock, I first had to research the current trends of today when it comes to keeping time. I analyzed which current trends intersect with design features of the Art Nouveau movement.
I also created a mood board with feelings that I sought my clock to reflect, while staying true to colors that are prevalent in the Art Nouveau style:

Serenity
Peace
For my ideation, I focused on themes such as: curvature, geometricized nature, symmetry, organic, elegance
I most closely followed the design of the sketch in the bottom right corner. I altered the geometry so that it would be slightly asymmetric, but still exude the geometric style of the Art Nouveau style. I also kept the sinuous curves in the interior portion.
Form: My clock creates a sinuous pattern from the arms stretching out from the inner to outer portion of the clock. Additionally, the overall hexagonal form of the inner and outer portions of the clock display geometric form.
Color: In my clock's design, I emphasize the brown color used in Art Nouveau because I made it out of wood. Additionally, I applied a mid-tone stain of brown to the original wood to exude elegance.
Material: For my product I used birch wood, and metallic clock hands to emphasize the use of different materials during the time of Art Nouveau. The stain also emphasizes the texture, and the exterior of wooden veneer displays depth.
The hands of the clock are reminiscent of the curved, geometric, and nature-like style that is so prevalent of Art Nouveau.
In the back side of the piece I placed the clock mechanism, which is powered by a single battery. There is a square wood cover that conceals the component and swivels to the side for easy access.
Brand Ideation
I listed adjectives and phrases that represent my brand identity and generated names for my product. I also ideated logos that aligned with my brand.
Brand Story
This clock design focuses on incorporating elements of Art Nouveau with modern style. Geometric idealization, sinuous curves, and the wooden texture evoke sensations of returning to nature and in turn, creates a feeling of serenity. For my brand name, I want to illustrate an illusion of time. In nature, we have a tendency to lose track of time when focused on the beauty. The name is called illusional: combining the words illusion and delusional. Additionally, the sinuous lines of the letter are reminiscent of the natural curves in Art Nouveau, the form appears as an illusion, and the numerous lines reflect the wood veneer of the clock product.
