Staples: THE CAMEL COAT

The course (Fashion and Accessories Design Advanced Laboratory) led by Sergio Zambon focuses on the concept of "staple", which translates as those types of clothing which are essential for the contemporary wardrobe.
The choice fell on the camel coat. The project initially developed through research aimed at identifying designs that became iconic such as the famous 101801 coat by Max Mara conceived by designer Anne-Marie Berretta in 1980. Inspiration came also from the world of cinema, with films such as "Last Tango in Paris" by Bertolucci or "La prima notte di quiete "by Zurlini. A look was also given to various contemporary exercises in reworking the classic piece.
The project involves the realization of a capsule collection of three outfits in which the chosen staple can be retraced; two of them are the result of
a deconstruction and reassembly of thrift store finds while the third will be designed from scratch. The outfits include different tops and trousers, a slipdress and a skirt, as the project touches both menswear and womenswear, at times merging them.
The story that completes the project takes its cue from the cinematic elements that inspired the project. The title chosen for the photoshoot is taken from some of the lyrics of the classic french song "Que reste-t-il de nos amours?" A woman finds herself longing for her lover. Some of his clothes are still there with her, as she is torn between the memories and the will to leave them behind.
