Tips When Visiting The Metropolitan Museum Of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art or the MET is one of the most iconic museums not just in New York, but in the entire United States. Ā Along with the British Museum in London, it is one of the world's largest museums not just in terms of size, but for the number of steady visitors and artworks it holds.

Making the most of your visit to the MET begins with appreciating its rich history. Ā It opened in 1872, making it more than 140 years old. Ā The famed neoclassical structure receives over seven million visitors per year. Ā

The MET is a huge building that you can get lost easily, so I suggest that if you plan on covering the whole area in just one visit, begin with one of the side wings (Greco-Roman to the left, Egyptian to the right.) Ā This will get you to experience a nice historical timeline of cultural production from all over the world. Ā

You can stay for an extended period at the MET, so donā€™t rush. Ā Youā€™d need about three to five hours to see the permanent collections, so take advantage of the museums many resting areas and give your tired feet a break. Ā A good pro tip is to download the MET app, a handy guide that wonā€™t have you pulling out a map every few steps. Ā Thereā€™s also a free audio tour. Ā

If you plan on bringing your children, note that only those under 12 get free admission. Ā It would be good to also locate the restrooms before setting out. Ā You can bring your camera on your visit, but I suggest having a bottled water with you. Ā Finally, the best time to visit the MET is during weekdays, as most if not all NYC museums are jampacked during the weekends. Ā
