Making the most of your visit to the MET begins with appreciating its rich history. Ā It opened in 1872, making it more than 140 years old. Ā The famed neoclassical structure receives over seven million visitors per year. Ā
The MET is a huge building that you can get lost easily, so I suggest that if you plan on covering the whole area in just one visit, begin with one of the side wings (Greco-Roman to the left, Egyptian to the right.) Ā This will get you to experience a nice historical timeline of cultural production from all over the world. Ā
You can stay for an extended period at the MET, so donāt rush. Ā Youād need about three to five hours to see the permanent collections, so take advantage of the museums many resting areas and give your tired feet a break.
