Let Me Out
April 2018:
The objective of this assignment was to create a 2-point perspective, surreal hallway. One object had to be larger than life, and the other object had to be smaller than life.
I am obsessed with hands. My man-eating garage door chopped off the tip of my finger in 2012. That's probably the root of my obsession. So, when my teacher said "surreal," my mind immediately went to Salvador Dali's melting clocks. I wanted to create something that made the viewer feel trapped and confused. I put the eye level just below the reaching hand, but above the water level. The walls are vertical but curving into the vanishing point to distort the viewer's sense of perspective. The water flows in from the the back of the hallway, cascading forward towards the viewer in waves.
