YAY or NAY?

WHAT IS YAY OR NAY?

Yay or Nay is a card-based swipe game that enables users to react positively or negatively to presented scenarios regarding privacy. Yay or Nay uses well known interactions coined by Tinder to make sure that no time is wasted and the user can immediately start learning about privacy. Yay or Nay strives to show that privacy questions aren’t always so black and white. Through thought-provoking questions that make the user weigh functionality vs. privacy, the game highlights how the two are related in real life.

THE CONCEPT
The game incorporates a short feedback loop to teach children and teenagers with common scenarios they may face. It is designed to make the user quickly assess and determine a decision for a problem set with swipe-able cards. Its overall goal is to help teens develop an understanding of the concept of digital privacy and help them make logical decisions based on the reasoning they develop through spending time on Yay or Nay. To provide a product that encompasses educational and persuasive goals, we look at it from two levels. On a macro level, Yay or Nay will focus on a product that provides logical privacy training while incorporating gamification. On a micro level, the focus will be on micro-interactions, aesthetics, design trends, badges, game logic, question and feedback sets. How a user would use Yay or Nay is by swiping left or right on a question card to answer “yes” or “no” and then get points for answering correctly. As the user answers more questions, badges are assigned if they meet the stated goal of the badge.

GAME TRAILER

As one of the designers on this project my main roles were to conduct user research, create the initial design brief presented to the client, help design early mockups, develop a user testing plan in order to gauge the effectiveness of the interactions and content, record all user test data, and develop a pivot strategy to iterate on discoveries made during user testing.
