Anti-Human Trafficking Website Design

"Its natural to hate, it's human nature, though its time you use that hate for a cause, use it for good, use it to fight for those who can't"
I made the choice to design my website in a 1366px wide format for desktop and a 414px wide format, because I found those size monitors to be common among consumers, making the site more accessible. My color pallet is very dark and subdued to greater emphasize the serious tone I designed my site to evoke.
The subject I chose to focus this site on is the issue of human trafficking that has been plaguing the Houston area for decades. My reasons behind this are because I'm from Houston so this hits close to home, along with the fact that tackling such a serious subject serves a very interesting design challenge trying to both preserve the severity of issue while keeping the site overall looking professional. The goal of my site is to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking in Houston and promote methods that the general public can use to help fight against it.
When going about designing this sight I looked at others dealing with the same topic, human trafficking awareness and prevention, I noticed a trend of them being very "sterile" in appearance, none really going to appeal to the emotional and human side of the issue. Due to that I made the design decision to stand out and show the "darkness" of human trafficking, and connect to the audience to make it click in they're mind that "this is a real issue and happens to actual people".
I made it a point to have my iconography and header text to resemble graffiti as to allude to the Houston urban environment where a majority of human trafficking occurs in the area.
