Kingsbury Family Crest

Intro:
In our 2D Art and Graphic Design class at Brophy Prep we had to design a family crest that encompassed different symbols of our family. First we were tasked with making a list of different things that are special to our families or were part of our lineage. From the start I knew I had to include something that relates to baseball and to being hardworking. When looking for examples of different family crests you come upon some very intricate and ornate designs which is not what I was going for. When looking at past students designs you saw the simplicity of the pieces.

Inspiration:

Ideation:

Once I had some ideas for different elements of the design I was able to start the process of sketching some of them.

After I finished some of the sketches I went into Adobe Illustrator and began to create different shapes for the shield.

Once I got the shapes down I began to move onto the smaller details such as the symbols and the colors. I decided that I was going to make a baseball and bat to represent my passion for the game. I also decided to include a plane as an icon because traveling is one of our favorite things to do together. I also included and hammer and a screwdriver to represent the hard work and dedication my dad and grandfather have put into the family to get it to where we are today. The final thing I designed was the Chevrolet badge because my dad and I restore classic Chevy cars. With the varying shape of the shield I placed different icons in each.  In the end I came out with two main choices as my final draft.
Two Finals:

Final:
For my final I went with the one on the left because it symbolized the most amount of things about my family on it. I went with the colors green, red, and white because my mom's side of the family is Hungarian and those are the colors of their flag. In a similar respect I chose the typeface because it was script and that symbolizes my dad's side of the family being from England and that area. It looked kind of like old English writing. I incorporated the hammer and screwdriver because that represents hard work and determination. The plane to me represents an ever lasting desire to travel and explore new places. The Chevrolet badge represents my dad and I's hobby of restoring classic Chevy cars. The bat and baseball represents my passion for baseball. I chose that crest because I believe it represents many different aspects of my family and encompasses all of my family members in some way or another.
