Nenecitas Sorbetes is a growing ice-cream shop in Cagayan de Oro City that serves traditional sorbetes made from a coconut milk base mixed with fresh local fruits. This simple treat is reminiscent of every Pinoy’s childhood of what used to be a simple street-peddled dessert we always enjoyed. It aims to promote Filipino culture through a more contemporary approach.

The design is inspired by the company’s story and its continuing endeavor of becoming an authentic local ice-cream shop. We sought to highlight its being a traditional Filipino dessert whilst incorporating a modern touch. Our color palette consists of bright, bold colors that signify buoyancy and complement the illustrations to make its Filipino identity more visible.
Everything started when Nenecitas, the mother of one of the two founders, came home to their verdant province in Bohol and rediscovered their old family ice cream recipe. This sparked something in the family to begin making and producing sorbetes the traditional way, using a coconut milk base or “gata” that is not only cheaper but also makes the product a much healthier alternative to the usual dairy-based ice cream variants. Through this, the owners intend to honor Nenecitas as she is the symbol of hard work in their family.

Nenecitas Sorbetes is locally made and inspired by the old-fashioned, Pinoy ice cream peddled in the streets. It aims to bring back memories of the favorite Filipino childhood dessert and reorient patronizers of the sorbetes culture that even the following generations would enjoy and remember.
