Reptile Youth: Be My Yoko Ono (Official Music Video).

The great Lucy McRae ( lucymcrae.net/ ) landed at the Motion studio at Hyper Island Stockholm on the 3rd of October 2012 and took the group aback with a full of energy presentation which was just the beginning of an intense 2,5 day workshop.

Lucy arrived with a challenging mission, handcraft a music video for the Danish band Reptile Youth. That alone would already be difficult to achieve in 2,5 days, but on top of that, it had to involve all 38 Hyper Motion Graphic students who fulfilled many different roles in the production process.

This was my first experience as a producer, and it was a great pleasure to work with Lucy and Reptile Youth. Loads of learnings and certainly something to be proud of.

With a few ideas and a lot of material, the type that motion designers are not used to work with, everybody got their hands dirty and started making from Human Design catalogues to pictures attached to a rotating device based on a ceiling fan engine.

The main concept was to have 4 different Human production stages (based on Willy Wonka’s factory style) where the parents would go through a catalogue choosing the features of the babies, through to the design and production of the little humans and the final packaging, shipping and ultimately creating an “army” of genetically engineered and identical people.

Mads and Esben from Reptile Youth flew in to Stockholm and were shot on the green screen, and had their faces modeled to be used on the final video as well.

Everything was shot as it was getting ready and we worked as production line in a factory. The process needed to be efficient to make sure all needed material was produced and shot within the 2,5 days. Bellow you can see some of the shooting behind the scenes.
