When you paint, you require an idea - a narrative.This is the first of what I would describe as my truly "graphic/illusutrative" paintings. I've been painting F1 cars for close to 20 years, and this is a new departure for me. And I like it. This was painted in 2010.
Looking at the sketch, you can see that it was key to the concept of the painting. I have always enjoyed sketching more than painting, and have always felt myself more able to sketch than paint - thus the painting was meant to strongly emulate the sketch and to draw on its strengths rather than to create its own value; the value is in the sketch; and to me - that's the way it should be.
